VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

 

The volunteer opportunities at GH Mission are expanding with our intensified goal of incorporating volunteers into virtually every department. The generous support from our volunteers will help us expand our impact -- and will provide a meaningful experience for those donating their time on our behalf.  Please join GH Mission and truly make a difference!  Below is a partial listing of opportunities that are available. HOPE VILLAGE INITIATIVE

Center for Children Caregiver/Classroom Assistant

Assist with the daily care and activities with children ages six  weeks to five years old. Duties include: assisting with meal time, bottle feedings, reading to large and small groups and assisting with special activities in and out of the classroom.

 

Special Event Volunteer

Volunteers are needed in the classrooms to assist with the children ( read stories, assist with mealtimes and activity times, present special activities in health, education, literacy, cultural awareness, arts or teach a foreign language ( Spanish, French, German). Provide assistance in the office preparing files, answering calls, filing.  

 

Community Arts: Focus on the Mission Community Arts Program Assistant

This opportunity will assist the Community Arts Manager with the administration and implementation of arts and digital media programs for youth though out Durham county. Skills needed: Administrative and organizational skills, proficient in Microsoft Word, capable of lifting and moving art supplies 20-40 pounds, event prep and clean-up, and some artistic or photographic abilities. Approximately 2-3 days a week for 8 hours desired.     

 

Tutors and Mentors 

Tutors needed for the CLEP program students in groups (small and large) or on a one-on-one basis to help foster their understanding of the material and learning abilities. Preferred skills include: Successful completion of course that he/she will tutor, or work experience that requires him/her to utilize the knowledge area of the subject matter. GH Mission will provide all the supplies and a room required for tutoring sessions. Ongoing position; weekdays and hours are flexible  

 

FOOD PROGRAM

Food Package Delivery to Homebound Seniors

Available for groups and individuals to participate. On-going position, Monday-Friday 9:00am -2:00pm; and most Saturdays, 9:00am- 12:00pm

 

Food Packaging for Homebound Seniors

Assist with preparing food packages: open boxes and putting food on pallets for pre-packs (boxes of food). Available for group sizes 10 or more to particpate. On-going position, Monday-Friday 9:00am -3:30pm; and select Saturdays, 9:00am-12:00pm

Food Distribution Center-Senior Shopping Assistant

Provide shopping assistance and stock support . Ongoing position; Monday-Friday, days and hours are flexible

 

Senior Holiday Delivery Program  

Volunteer for the holiday! Help us provide 1,200 seniors with fresh food. Volunteers will pick up the food boxes between 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at our Food Warehouse, 1200-B Oakman Boulevard, and then make the deliveries. Volunteers can select zip code areas to make their deliveries.
